Other Eco-Friendly Practices
We reduce, repurpose and recycle paper, ink, printing plates, scrap metal, corrugated and cardboard.
Plates are made on the Kodak’s Magnus 400 III platesetter. It is fast and efficient with a low environmental impact. We use Kodak Thermal Direct Non Process Plates. Chemicals are eliminated so every plate is “greener.”
In addition to Shawmut’s FSC and SFI certifications and STEP initiative, our commitment to environmental sustainability includes a multitude of other practices.
• Implementation of eco-friendly technology and products in the
press room, such as using all vegetable based inks and chemicals chosen to eliminate or minimize Volatile Organic Compounds
• G-7 color certification reducing paper and ink waste in the printing process
• Online proofing eliminating the need for paper proofs
• Purchasing of wind power credits
• Company contributions of $500 for employees who purchase hybrid vehicles or install energy star rated windows, doors and weather stripping or insulation in their homes
• Installation of T5 Lighting in the plant, as the eco-friendly bulbs give off 20% more light while using less energy than conventional bulbs
